Asian games medalist from India fails gender test
New Delhi (dpa) - A top Indian woman athlete has failed a gender test at the Doha Asian Games and is set to be stripped of her medal, news reports said Monday.
Santhi Soundararajan was subjected to the gender test at Doha soon after she won the silver in the women's 800-metre race, the Indian Express newspaper reported.
According to International Olympic Committee rules, an athlete is made to undergo a gender verification test if officials have doubts or rivals complain.
Manmohan Singh, chairman of the Indian Olympic Association's medical commission said the body had received a report from Doha saying Soundararajan had failed the test.
He said the matter was now with the Asian Games jury which would decide whether to strip her of her medal. // © 2006 DPA
