Australian jockey Scobie Breasley dies
Sydney (dpa) - Australian jockey Arthur "Scobie" Breasley died Thursday at the age of 92, Racing Victoria announced.
Breasley won his first race at the age of 12 and went on to ride 1,000 winners in Australia and more than 2,000 in England.
He won the English jockey's premiership four times, the Epsom Derby twice and the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe.
Breasley died Thursday morning at a hospital after suffering a stroke Monday, Victoria Racing said.
"Scobie was one of racing's true treasures, and he will be sadly missed by all involved in the racing industry," Racing Victoria chairman Graham Duff said. // © 2006 DPA
