Garden settles sexual harassment case
Madison Square Garden, acting after strong urging by the NBA, paid $11.5 million to settle a sexual harassment claim by a former team executive.
Trial was set begin this week on Anucha Browne Sanders' $9.6 million compensatory damages claim against Madison Square Garden. She'd earlier won punitive damages in her case against New York Knicks Coach Isiah Thomas.
NBA Commissioner David Stern urged a settlement, saying "and in the interest of focusing on basketball, we can all agree that it is time for us to move on and put this issue behind us," The New York Times said.
"As I've said before, I am completely innocent," Thomas told reporters before Monday's Knicks' game. "This decision doesn't change that. However, it's in the best interest of Madison Square Garden to move forward and I fully support it." // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
