Kiefer withdraws from Australian Open
Hamburg (dpa) - German tennis player Nicolas Kiefer on Friday withdrew from the upcoming Australian Open because he is not fit enough for the Grand Slam after a long injury layoff.
Kiefer, 29, reached the semi-finals in Melbourne last year, but has not played since June due to a hand injury which required operations in July and October.
"It makes no sense to start with a Grand Slam after not playing for six months and without proper preparation," Kiefer said on his website.
