Kuznetsova takes Porsche Grand Prix
Svetlana Kuznetsova beat Dinara Safin 6-4 6-3 Sunday to capture the Porsche Grand Prix at Stuttgart, Germany.
The result of the all-Russian final solidified the doubts of tennis analysts about Safina's No. 1 world ranking in women's tennis.
The fifth-seeded Kuznetsova was beaten in five finals last season, while Safina lost in a final for the third time in 2009.
Kuznetsova's victory was worth $107,000.
Safina had escaped an upset bid by Italy's Flavia Pennetta in Saturday's semifinals and Sunday she failed to covert on any of five break-point chances.
It has been a while,
Kuznetsova said. At the beginning, I was a little bit nervous.
The 23-year-old Kuznetsova, the tournament's ninth seed, ended a streak of losses in her previous six finals appearances by using her power game to dominate the match.
She recorded two service breaks and won 56 percent of the match's total points.
It was her 10th career title.
