The Sounders overcame the ejection of star forward Freddy Montero, who drew a red card in the 48th minute. Chicago took a 1-0 lead when Marco Pappa broke through in the 68th minute on an assist from Cuauhtemoc Blanco. The Fire (2-0-5) remain the only MLS team yet to lose in the 2009 season.
