Moldova's Viorel Bologan enters third round of World Chess Cup
Moldovan International Grandmaster, Viorel Bologan, obtained a splendid qualification for the third round of the World Chess Cup, held in Khanty-Mansiisk, Russia.
Bologan defeated in the additional matches Bulgarian player Ivan Ceparinov. The score after the first two classic chess games was equal, 1-1, and under FIDE Regulation, the winner should be decided in a tie-break. The first two additional matches played Thursday ended in a draw and thus the score was 2-2. Bologan won both games with an overall score 4 -2.
Following this success, the most valuable Moldovan chess player ever qualified for the third round where he will face Czech player Viktor Laznicka, who in the first two rounds played with Greek player Ioannis Papaioannou and Russian player Alexader Morozevici, the last is ranked fourth in the final victory.
As many as 32 chess players remained to fight for the Chess World Cup trophy; in round 4 will play 16 and only 8 players-in round 5. Semi-Finals with 4 players will take place from 6-8 December; the finals are scheduled on 10-14 December.
Chess World Cup 2009 has a total budget of 1.6 million USD, of which the winner will be rewarded with a check worth 120 000 USD.
