NBA: Detroit 92, Atlanta 91
Chauncey Billups sank a free throw with less than two seconds left to play Sunday night, as Detroit edged Atlanta, 92-91, in the Pistons' home opener.
Billups led Detroit with 22 points, five assists and four steals.
In his first game in the new season, Detroit's Richard Hamilton scored 21 points. He missed the first two games because of the birth of his son.
Jason Maxiell added 15 points and eight rebounds, as the Pistons rose to 3-0.
Atlanta got 23 points, five rebounds and four assists from Joe Johnson. Marvin Williams had 22 points and six rebounds; Josh Smith had 13 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots; and rookie guard Acie Law added 11 points for the Hawks -- who were coming off a season-opening 101-94 victory over Dallas Friday night. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
