Reports: Lloyd Carr retiring Monday
University of Michigan football Coach Lloyd Carr will announce his retirement at a news conference Monday morning.
Both Detroit newspapers, The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press, Sunday reported Carr will retire after 13 seasons at the helm.
His Wolverines had a chance to claim the Big Ten title Saturday, but were beaten by arch rival Ohio State 14-3. The loss marked the fourth consecutive season the Wolverines lost to the Buckeyes.
Michigan ended the regular season 8-4 overall (6-2 Big Ten), and likely will receive a lower-tier bowl bid.
"There will be a day to discuss that, and this isn't it," Carr said about his possible retirement after the game.
He has been a member of the Wolverine football staff for 28 years, including stints as an assistant under predecessors Bo Schembechler (1980-89) and Gary Moeller (1990-94).
Carr is the Big Ten's active leader in conference wins, has an 81-23 conference record and has guided the Wolverines to six 10-win seasons. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
