Safina, Kuznetsova win Stuttgart semis
Dinara Safina and Svetlana Kuznetsova were the semifinal winners Saturday at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany.
Safina, the Russian who is the world's top-ranked women's player and the tournament's top seed, rallied from a set down to earn a 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 victory against Italy's Flavia Pennetta.
She fell behind 6-3 3-1 and was a game away from losing the match in the second set before a 10-game run secured her victory.
Kuznetsova, the fifth-seed, trounced another Russian, second-seeded Elena Dementieva 6-4, 6-2.
Things went my way today,
said Kuznetsova, who rose to 6-4 lifetime against Dementieva. I played well and enjoyed the match.
The winner of Sunday's Safina-Kuznetsova title match will earn $107,000.
