Tour de France- Mark Cavendish takes win number three!

By Gabriela Didcov

Cavendish went on to win his third stage of this race and the 13th of his career at the Tour. Renshaw went home, thrown out for aggressive riding.

“Julian Dean hooked his left elbow over Mark’s right and Mark used his head to get away,” said Cavendish, who was subdued and cranky in his postrace news conference. He added that it was a late move by Dean that caused the initial hazard for the pack.

However, by winning Cavendish has beaten the record held by his mentor, Erik Zabel, who previously held the record whilst a professional, with 12 stage wins in la grande boucle. Cavendish did it in the style to which we've become accustomed, the HTC-Columbia sprinter continuing to gain confidence in this year's race after a shaky start.

“ I’m really happy to win,” Cavendish said without emotion. “My team did a great job.”
