U.S. Team wins Presidents Cup
Stewart Cink nailed down the winning point but it was a team effort Sunday, as the U.S. team easily posted its first Presidents Cup victory on foreign soil.
U.S. golfers swept the foursomes in the morning to take a seven-point lead into the 12 singles. The American team clinched the title early in the singles competition, but the International team fought back to win the singles, 7-5 -- and deprive the winners of a record margin of victory.
It was the Internationals’ first singles win of the event, and made the final score 19 1/2 - 14 1/2.
Mike Weir gave the hometown fans a thrill, beating world No. 1 Tiger Woods, 1-up in the singles sessions. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
