Kenny Perry leads veterans at Players

Kenny Perry led a charge by the veteran set Friday to take the lead at the 36-hole mark of The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

With much of the pre-tournament talk focused on golf's youth movement, the 47-year-old Perry shot a 2-under 70 in high winds for a two-day total of 6-under 138 at the TPC Sawgrass-Stadium course.

One shot back was Bernhard Langer, who at age 50 would be the fifth oldest player to win on the PGA Tour. Langer shot a 67 Friday and shared second place with Paul Goydos and first-round leader Sergio Garcia.

Anthony Kim, seeking his second victory in as many weeks, was alone in fifth at 140 and Boo Weekley stood at 141.

Among those at 142 was 48-year-old Fred Couples, a two-time winner of this event. The first of his titles came 24 years ago. Defending champion Phil Mickelson was among those at 143.

Only 15 players were under par after 36 holes.

Perry has made just two bogeys during the first two rounds.

The old guys have played okay so far, Perry said. The young guns have kind of beat up on us a little this year. We're going to get after them.
