Customs agents in Sydney, Australia, have intercepted an 88-pound shipment of steroids from China, a report said Friday.

The Sydney Daily Telegraph said authorities fear an Australian expatriate may be the mastermind of an Olympic doping operation and that agents have tracked the source of the performance-enhancing drugs to an Australian-born Caucasian man in China.

He is possibly targeting the Olympics, Customs investigations manager Richard Janeczko told the newspaper. Customs is working with international partners to establish his current whereabouts in China, but given where the Games are being held it is a concern.

The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority has been working with Chinese police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency to establish possible links with Australian athletes since a record haul of steroids was intercepted in Sydney in March 2007.

We believe there is a demand for this sort of stuff in Australia (and) the Chinese are being quite co-operative, Janeczko said.
