LSU dismisses star lineman Jarvis Jones

LSU offensive tackle Jarvis Jones has been dismissed from the team for violating team rules.

Louisiana State University head coach Les Miles did not elaborate when he announced Jones' dismissal late Thursday.

The Times-Picayune newspaper in New Orleans Friday said Jones had not been involved in any embarrassing off-field incidents and that LSU officials said the school will forfeit his scholarship.

The issues we had with Jarvis were internal and ones that we dealt with within the framework of our team, Miles said on the school's Web site. However, we just felt like it was time to go in a different direction. We wish him well in any of his future endeavors.

Jones, a 6-foot-6 inch, 265-pound sophomore from Rosenburg, Texas, played in seven games as a true freshman last season when the Tigers won the national championship.

He is the second player dismissed by Miles this off-season.

The other player was quarterback Ryan Perrilloux.
