Redskins end suffers knee injury

Washington Redskins defensive end Phillip Daniels sustained a left knee injury Sunday on the team's first day of training camp at Ashburn, Va.

The 13-year veteran was carted off the field after the first play of 7-on-7 drills. Coach Jim Zorn called Daniels' injury a possible hyperextension.

Daniels is the Redskins' anchor on the defensive line and a team leader. Last season, the 35-year-old veteran played in 15 games, compiling 37 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks.

The Washington Post reported the injury-prone, 6-foot-5 inch, 276-pounder was to have an MRI. An ESPN report Sunday afternoon said undisclosed sources said Daniels is out for this season, with Washington looking into the availability of disgruntled Miami Dolphins all-pro Jason Taylor.
