Jason Giambi's seventh-inning solo home run Sunday lifted the New York Yankees to a 2-1 win over the Oakland Athletics.

Giambi's 20th home run this season completed a three-game sweep and lifted the post all-star break record of winning pitcher Andy Pettitte to 109-44.

Giambi and Robinson Cano led the Yankees' offense with two hits each.

In eight innings, Pettitte (11-7) gave up an earned run and just four hits in eight innings with no walks and nine strikeouts. Closer Mariano Rivera earned his 24th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Before Giambi's homer, the score was tied 1-1 with New York's Alex Rodriguez hitting a third-inning sacrifice fly and Oakland's Ryan Sweeney hitting an RBI single in the sixth.

Sweeney had two of the five hits for the Athletics, whose losing streak grew to five straight contests.

Losing pitcher Justin Duchscherer (10-6) surrendered two earned runs on six hits in seven innings.
