Matt Garza turned in another outstanding outing against Toronto Wednesday, throwing 7 2/3 shutout innings in carrying Tampa Bay past the Blue Jays 1-0.

The game's only run came on a fourth-inning homer by Carlos Pena and the Rays' pitching corps made it stand up to end a brief losing streak at two games.

Garza (11-7) has allowed just one earned run to the Blue Jays this year in 31 innings. He gave up that run on May 7, when Toronto downed Tampa Bay 6-2.

After allowing six hits Wednesday, Garza was relieved with two on and two out in the eighth by Grant Balfour. Adam Lind promptly struck out on three pitches.

Dan Wheeler threw a perfect ninth for his ninth save.

The loss went to David Purcey (2-5), who gave up just five hits in going the distance. He struck out 11 and walked none.

It was the 48th home win this year for the Rays, most in the American League.
