Mariano Rivera struck out three batters during a five-out save Friday to preserve the New York Yankees' 2-1 victory over Toronto.

New York won its second straight and stayed six games behind Boston in the American League wild-card race.

Six Yankees' pitchers teamed to limit the Blue Jays to five hits, with starter Carl Pavano (2-0) lasting six innings to get the win.

Rivera came in with runners on first and second and one out in the eighth and retired all five batters he faced to earn his 32nd save.

Both New York runs came in the fourth when Bobby Abreu doubled home Johnny Damon and the scored on a sacrifice fly by Jason Giambi.

A.J. Burnett (16-10) went the distance for Toronto, allowing seven hits and striking out eight.
