Joe Theismann loses 'MNF' studio spot

Former Washington Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann is out as a commentator for ESPN's Monday Night Football, a network official said.

The source told USA Today that the 57-year-old sportscaster will be replaced on the popular TV program this season after sharing time in the booth last season with announcer Mike Tirico and analyst Tony Kornheiser.

Possible replacements for Theismann, who previously served as an ESPN analyst for 19 NFL seasons, are former football greats Emmitt Smith and retired head coach Bill Parcells.

ESPN studio analyst Ron Jaworski is reportedly also in the running for the vacant Monday Night Football spot.

No official comments have been made by Theismann or his agent.

USA Today said that just like former primetime NFL commentators Paul Maguire and Mike Patrick, Theismann may ultimately find himself being featured on another portion of ESPN/ABC's football coverage.
